Our staff:
Our director, Sabina Loffler, has a PhD in Hispanic Linguistics from the UNED in Madrid, Spain. She participates regularly in national and international conferences on language teaching and learning. Besides teaching at CELA, she has developed Spanish Online (CELA Online), a free service for all those interested in the Spanish language. She also has a master's degree in Online Education. Before founding the school in 1997 she taught Spanish as a foreign language at European Institutions and Universities. The Spanish teachers at CELA are highly qualified, speak more than one language, and participate constantly in teaching seminars at school and abroad. At CELA we also train Spanish language teachers and are members of ASOVELE the venezuelan Spanish language teachers association. CELA is examination Centre of the DIE, Diploma Internacional de español.
Our method for teaching and learning:
CELA is a small and very personal school. We take a limited number of students each month. For us it is very important that, for learning to be successful, the groups never have more than seven students, with an average of three to four students per teacher depending on the season.
To guarantee that the right level of teaching is provided, we have developed several level tests which can be taken online before the first day of class: CELA Spanish Online. The result is sent by e-mail both to the school and to the student. We highly recommend that students take the test, so that we can place them in the correct group from day one. This also allows us to arrange classes in homogeneous groups and to be aware of our new students' Spanish language skills.
Whether you choose our group or private classes, or one of our specialist courses, the teaching that you receive will be tailored to your individual needs and interests. Our teaching is centered on the student.
CELA Spanish courses are offered in five levels of ability: Beginners (no previous knowledge), Intermediate A, Intermediate B, Advanced and Superior. Each level has a program of 50 lessons organized in two week blocks. Language learning is fast and effective due to the size of the groups, and the fact that our programs are based on a progression that is grammatical, lexical, morphological and syntactical, as well as oriented to the most common situations.
We recommend that our students lodge with a family to increase the possibility of practicing their Spanish, as well as learning about other aspects of Venezuelan lifestyle and culture. Since it was established in 1998, CELA has had more than one thousand students of different nationalities, ages, professions and interests. Our teachers have extensive experience in teaching E.L.E. (Spanish as a Foreign Language), and some of them are also proficient in other languages.
Lessons are in Spanish, except for the beginner's level, in which some key explanations are given in other languages.
